Starting with the ‘liberation’ of Egypt from the Persians in 332 BC, this course explores the brief Egyptian rule of Alexander the Great followed by the Ptolemaic Period which lasted until the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BC. We will especially analyse the fusion of Egyptian and Greek culture, studying how religion, art, language and administration evolved during these fascinating three centuries.
