Talk by Richard Bennett, Chairman of Reading Civic Society

Richard will briefly explain the role of Reading Civic Society and then move on to summarise (using a map) the 24+ developments which are planned for brownfield sites in the centre of Reading.  He will then discuss the future of Reading Gaol, which is right in the centre of these developments, with reference to its history and also the sale documents which he has been able to access in the sales Data Room. The restrictions of the site and the potential uses of the Gaol will be explored referring to Matt Rodda’s campaign to “Save Reading Gaol”, the Reading Gaol HUG, the support of both Reading’s MPs to the vision, Theatre and Arts in Reading’s approach and RBC’s announcement on Tuesday 19 November that it will be making a bid, the deadline for which is 6th December.
