John Fletcher

John recently retired from full time employment, he had worked for many years in the food industry as a R&D manager and scientist. During that time he was involved in many aspects of theoretical and applied nutritional science. In addition to working with nutrition scientists from the UK and Europe he has collaborated on nutritional studies in many parts of the world including Turkey, Russia, Mexico, America and China. Before deciding to work for industry he was employed by the Scientific Civil Service. John came to the subject of Nutrition from a biological science background, he has a BSc in Physiology and Biochemistry from the University of Reading and a DPhil from the University of Oxford where he studied the mechanisms linking metabolism and prenatal growth. He believes that nutrition is an especially fascinating subject of study because it includes learnings from the natural sciences, human behaviour, economics and culture. John enjoys travelling and enjoying the different and sometimes surprising ways that people have fashioned tasty and nutritious foods from diverse plants and animals.
