Mike Grundy

Mike Grundy’s areas of expertise centre on the art, architecture and history of the major cities of Europe. His courses demonstrate how these separate strands have all contributed to the essence of these cities and to the form and peoples of these cities today. Mike usually includes case studies of their Metro and Underground systems. These are always exemplars of the art and architecture of each city and vividly demonstrate how each has chosen to represent itself to residents and tourists alike. Mike has a Maths degree from University College London, an MBA from Henley Management College, and a CHE in the History of Art and Architecture from Birkbeck College, London. On a totally separate note, he is also the holder of silver and bronze medals for tennis singles in his age group in the World Transplant Games of 2011, 2013 and 2015. Mike is a Londoner who has lived in many parts of the capital over his career to-date, and whose career has meant him spending considerable periods in a number of the major cities of both Europe and North America. He is an enthusiast for celebrating the vast range of cultural and technological developments made across Europe over the centuries, for appreciating the achievements of its famous people, and for highlighting some of the more ironic or quirky aspects of European culture and history.
